An industry that took nearly 30 years to build in Quebec, which generates thousands of good jobs, and allows our best talents to shine internationally is now threatened by a recent decision by the Quebec government to cut program tax credits. Each dollar paid by the government generates six for Quebec.
Already, since the decision was taken a few months ago, the industry, which was already heavily hit by industrial strikes in the United States, has faced thousands of layoffs in Quebec. The industry is also in full upheaval with the rise of AI. This latest decision by the government risks seriously hampering the revival of the industry to the benefit of other destinations in the world, with more generous credits than Quebec, whether Toronto, Vancouver, Atlanta, or even London in England.
The film, television, and video game industries are all affected by these cuts. In response, we are producing a video featuring interviews with stakeholders in the VFX, Animation, and video-game industries. This includes studio owners, both big and small, as well as individuals who have lost their jobs or are considering leaving Quebec completely.
Our video aims to show the damages these cuts are already doing to the industry and to Quebec. By highlighting the real-life impacts of these decisions, we will showcase the voices of those directly affected.
Let us unite to denounce these cuts which serve no one in Quebec. Together, we can show the government and the world the importance of preserving and nurturing Quebec’s creative industries.
